I haven't heard anyone legit say the NBA today is better.

The MSB has this debate about every 2-3 weeks (it seems like) during basketball season. The younger guys say that the NBA today is so much better than it used to be and older guys laugh and say there is no way.

The younger guys then accuse the older guys of being nostalgic and not knowing what they are talking about, which is hilarious.

Younger guys who never saw basketball before 2000 are telling guys who watched both eras that they don't know what they are talking about. Whatever. It is so stupid.

Basketball began to fall off dramatically in the late 90s with every good player going pro out of high school. It has nothing to do with nostalgia. It has everything to do with these guys not developing by actually playing competitive games that mean something. The NBA tried to fix it with the "one year" rule, but it hasn't really helped.

The NBA should do what the NFL does and say you have to be 3 years out of high school before they will take you. That would solve everything and restore the college game to meaning. It would make the NBA much better too, because you would have guys coming in who could actually play the game and not just be a AAU superstar.

Do you realize that guys would just go overseas with this rule?

Another major factor in the downfall of the NBA is that fans have no idea who the hell is on the teams anymore. Too much movement around the league for fans to keep up or develop fan relationships with the players like they used to be able to do. Add in the fact that the college kids playing only one year in college don't develop the fan interest and anticipation that used to happen for star college players as to who they'll end up with or how they will perform in the pros. This is marketing 101 and they have screwed it up. It is not working for the NBA or college basketball.
