That's a misconception. I read a study conducted by the state biologists that basically said that a large female like the ones we're discussing don't really lay any more eggs than the smaller ones.

Basically, two 1 lb. females lay more eggs than one large one. So keeping one big female with eggs is less damaging than keeping several small females with eggs.
