If the students want to change the name, and the proposal is coming from the student body, then shouldn't they get a say? I'm not campaigning to get rid of Byrd, but I don't really care that much if they get rid of the name. And it is worth asking if this is the guy we want to keep honoring.

If that's what Maryland wants to do then I think most won't have issue.

The problem is the next thing you know the media will be hounding every program with the name of a coach on their buildings with a suspect, possibly racist past to change the name. And will absolutely turn it into a witchhunt if they don't (see the Redskins).

This exact thread shows that is not true. Everyone got up in arms right away that Maryland is considering a proposal from the student government to change the name. Not even doing it, just considering. I mean, if we're gonna talk about thin skins, how about those how leap to outrage whenever someone suggests a mild change?

Is anyone honestly losing sleep that the sacred name of Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium might be changed?

And that my friends, is what we call a slippery slope fallacy
