Are they non dishwasher safe glasses that are hand dried? The towel can leave this scent behind.

That's a good one. Next time I will dry with a paper towel or clean towel. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just the dish towel leaving the smell on them as I dried them and put them away.

If you don't let them dry completely and then place them upside down in the cabinet, they will smell like that.
Store them right side up or buy a wine glass rack.

If you are using the dishwasher, it's time to run a dishwasher cleaning cycle. Buy the chemical, do this about once a month with no dishes inside. The mildew smell would get stronger the longer the glass sits in the cabinet, especially if it wasn't completely dry.
Once you get the dishwasher clean, stop using it for wine glasses.
