I know dogs are quick to go after things, but that is a bad habit to let them get into. Not trying to be an arse.

Yea for sure it wasn't intentional. He's an indoor dog, small breed so goes like a bat out of hell when he gets any excitement. I was walking him and trying to take the picture and he got there too fast. Its definitely not going to be a habit. It was my fault for not having a better handle on his leash but I swatted his mouth as soon as he bit and dropped it immediately.

It had a mortal wound though by that point

yeah, my brilliant Lab once chased a cottonmouth into a hole, got zapped. Side of head swole up like a cantaloupe. Prolly didn't learn his lesson either.
