Finally watched last night. My initial expectation was to really enjoy the movie. About a 1/4 of the way in, I was prepared to call if a dud. The concept for the movie was set up terribly, but once they get into space, the movie really takes off. The "science" in the movie was pretty elementary; although I appreciated how they didn't try to explain everything. The metaphysics presented in the story are what ultimately pull the movie through.
It's a big, ambitious mess that ultimately finds its way by the end in a big way when the story, characters, metaphysics, special effects, and music all come together. I will never be disappointed in or regret a ballsy movie that risks everything to shoot for the stars (pun intended)
Best part: The final 20 minutes.
Worst part: Matt Damon's conventional character and the movie's setup (specifically, the NASA setup).
