because he thought Deichman could win the game in that spot.
and even though he hit into a DP, it's an unlikely scenario, being the 3rd fastest player on the team.
meaning he can pull the ball, advance the runner, and be in the same situation pretty much at worst. Or the ball could find its way into the OF and walk off

If that was his thought process the it wasn't ego, he was just plain wrong. You HAVE to bunt there. It's not up for debate.
