Was South Park the first real popular outlet (news, tv, etc.) to show people what Scientology was about?

I think this speaks volumes about Scientology:

quote:

Jenna Miscavige Hill (born February 1, 1984) is an American former Scientologist. After leaving the Church of Scientology in 2005, she has become an outspoken critic of the organization. She is the daughter of Ron Miscavige, Jr.[1] and the niece of current church leader David Miscavige.[2][3]

quote:

n 2013 her book Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape, was published under the William Morrow imprint of HarperCollins.[10] Jointly written with Lisa Pulitzer, a former correspondent for the New York Times, the book recounts her experience of Scientology in detail. The Church of Scientology has denied the accuracy of her account.[11]

On February 8, 2013, while appearing on radio's Opie & Anthony Show, she admitted that she first learned about the story of Xenu from watching the South Park episode "Trapped in the Closet".[12]

I started googling about Scientology after the Cruise/Holmes breakup.

as far as outing the xenu story, probably.

but several major news magazines wrote about scientology in the 90s...disconnecting, fair game, all of that shite. TIME magazine wrote a great article and flat out said that they blackmailed the IRS.

The xenu stuff really overshadows the shite people need to hear about IMO.
