they've been scamming people for 40 years
they have not paid taxes to the IRS
50,000 members is nothing to shake a stick at...50,000 members at let's just say $2,000 per year is $100,000,000...tax free. It's safe to assume with the sizeable donations they strong arm out of their members (the one guy said he paid them $200,000 dollars in one donation, and he's a nobody compared to guys like cruz, Travolta, or even millionaires like kirstie alley.
obviously their assets have appreciated over time as well. Their costs are pretty low since they have the sea org to whom they pay as close to nothing as you can get.

The sea org parts with LRH on the boat reminded me of that movie "The Master".
I'm assuming that movie was at least heavily influenced by Hubbard and his crew back in the day.
