What they should have done when they saw him at school with the letter is called him and the mom into a meeting and said something like this, "Now Johnny, Im going to hold onto this jacket for a bit. But you are going to be able to earn it back. What we need from you is to be the loudest and most vocal guy on the team for the next 3 games, and the first one to practice for the next two weeks. Then, we will have a letterman presentation for you the next week at assembly"


If that happened, that kid would have been so fricking pumped to do actually get that jacket in front of his peers, especially being told he had to "earn" it. Yall would be shocked at how much downs kids respond to having goals and jobs that make them feel like they are being treated equal and depended on. That is how they grow and become able to semi live on their own
