My HS gave them out for academics too...

At the awards ceremony each year, they'd hand out 300-400 letters for a school of 1100 kids.

Shhh.

There are alot of people in here who seem very fond of that varsity letter they earned. They are devastated to find out that it's such a meaningless accomplishment, a special needs student should be able to wear one to feel good about himself, even without "earning" it.

It's tough to find out that your biggest achievement is something of that magnitude, and we need to be respectful of their feelings.
