It will be legal nationwide before then anyway. Its already legal in 9 states. The whole thing that gets me is how can you punish someone who plays for Seattle, the Broncos or the Redskins for smoking when its now 100% legal for recreational use in those states?
Doesn't matter? Your employer says no weed or you are fired. We pay you millions and if you follow the rules then your good. You don't follow them then you are fined and or fired. Pretty simple, at least I think. I mean I don't smoke, but I could give a rats arse if someone else does. Just keep it away from me b/c it's not my thing. That being said, it's illegal in most states and illegal where the NFL is based. So, it's company policy. Again, I think of it just like a normal company. Company rules say you get drug tested and you have drugs in your system the same thing happens. They aren't special just b/c they are athletes.

Except the new NFLs drug policy has come out and the testing and discipline for a player testing positive for marijuana is different and more relaxed.
quote:
Marijuana discipline: The punishment for a positive test is also changing. As is the case now, a first-time offense lands the player in the substance abuse program without a suspension. The primary difference is the punishment for a second positive test: simply a two-game fine. Each additional violation receives the following progressive discipline: four-game fine, four-game suspension, 10-game suspension. A player can therefore test positive for marijuana three times without getting suspended
