I've done the trip in a tiller skiff. The weather was just too good to pass up that day. Made the trip in a bay boat plenty of times. Like with anything else you have to be aware of the risks and know your limitations.

Are you sure about this? Pretty sure the nesting areas are clearly marked. I've never heard of not being able to walk the beaches.

This is what I was told, they are off limits do to reduced nesting areas available from erosion and oil spill B.S. from March to August.
Not saying I follow it but the OP is informed.
