If he's ripping it up in great chunks non-stop, upset stomach, and he will puke it all up later. I had to watch my dog carefully when he would go into this mode, as he would bite at plant material indiscriminately. Indoors, left to his own, he'd strip leaves off houseplants and bite chunks out of rubber tree leaves, which are poisonous. Outside, if you have sago palms, watch him around those. All parts are poisonous, especially the seeds, and they do kill dogs.
After several episodes of this, I started leashing him and sitting with him or crating him. I'd squirt some pepto in his mouth or give him a Tums. He'd get over it in an hour or two.
