A 15 year old, no matter how brilliant, is just not ready to live alone in a college environment. Not unless you are basically turning them over to a surrogate family. I don't blame UAB, this could have easily happened at any college campus in America.
Hell, most 18 year olds aren't mature enough for college.

I kige this. Everyone who went to college knew some 18 year olds who weren't mature enough and partied their way to flunking out.
UAB should have either not recruited someone that age, or they should have taken better care of her considering how young she was. But it's not a reason to hate them 15 years later.

I read the whole article, and the parents were very much concerned about this. UAB approached her, because they wanted the publicity of having a prodigy on campus. The parents had sit-down meetings with school administrators and were assured she would be looked after beyond what a normal student would be. The school went out of their way to avoid telling the parents anything and/or damaging the team when the coach had to give his players a PSA on not fricking the minor in their dorm. I absolutely blame UAB.
