Evidently they have thousands left over, and are all but giving them away. It is getting late in the planting season so if anyone is wanting some for the deer , squirrels, ect this would be an excellent way to get them cheap or maybe even free. They have water oak, sawtooth, willow, and shumard oak packets. Just giving a heads up.
Trees are in!!! Can go pick them up at the Ag/forstry building on LSU. Best place to park will be on the loading dock on the back side of the building as the seedlings are in the room right there.

If at all interested people, esp younger hunters with land ought to grab these up. If you get them cheap enough get a large volume, stick them in ground as gfast as possible and maybe you will have enough survive to make a difference in about 10-15 years!

According to my dad they are willing to giving a ton of them away for free. Basically you buy a couple of packets and they will give you more just to get them out there rather than throw them away.

I got some of these a few years back...quality trees and every single one survived...

Are they still available in BR? I was going to go get some then realized the pickup days were in the middle of the week...

I'll get with my dad to get some contact info, and where to go.

Just called the Clinton office and they didn't have any. They suggested calling Hammond because they have a cooler they store them in. Hammond said they were out and Baton Rouge did also
No luck in Opelousas. Any further for me and it would be cheaper to order some

Just got this from my dad:
They can call 925-4500, which is the Office of Forestry on Florida Blvd. They have thousands in a refrigerator they are trying to give away. If there is a problem, or they want to sell them, contact me back.
I just talked with Allen Rutherford. He is going to get them to deliver a thousand here to our building, where we can store them in a refrigerator.
The state is going to close the nursery at Columbia due to budget cuts, so they are lifting all the seedlings and trying to get rid of them. They don’t know yet what they will do with the nursery. Likely either sell it or contract it out.

They just came and got all the black walnuts from our property in the last month. They must be planning on still doing something.

He doesn't have them at LSU, but can have then delivered. He has laid his hands on them, and grabbed a few for our land. Just needs to get a count up of what people want so there aren't a bunch of them taking up space in their coolers on campus. May just tell him to get a 100 Nutalls, Sawtooth, Walnut, White Oak, and people can pick them up as needed

As far as I know they are free. He doesn't have them there yet.
