Provided your eyesight was stable when you get the surgery, it should last your entire lifetime. The myth is that LASIK corrects farsightedness. It doesn't do that, and farsighteness usually strikes later in life.
Lots of fail in this post.
There's really no way of predicting how long LASIK will last. If your prescription changes from year to year, there's a good chance it'll keep changing after LASIK. The surgery reshapes your cornea to get you seeing clearly at that point in time, but it doesn't do anything to stabilize refractive changes. You should have a stable prescription for at least a year before having any sort of refractive surgery.
And LASIK can absolutely correct farsightedness. It's not quite as predictable as myopic LASIK, but it can be done. You're thinking of presbyopia, the inability for adults over 40-45 to see up close.

Had it in 2007. Needed an enhancement a few months after to get it perfect.
Had some dry eye for several weeks. I was quite sensitive to light for about a year, but I had been wearing photogray or transition lens for 20+ years and was not used to unfiltered sunlight.
I wear readers now for close up. That is not fixed by lasik to correct your distance vision. All is well.
This bulletin board has good info, but keep in mind that the main people who post are those who have problems. Folks who are happy don't usually search for a forum to share the experience.
