Well, I also think that X1 and PS4 have given indie developers the biggest avenues to showcase innovative games and be able to produce things that would have been too risky in the past. Especially with all the incentives and development assistance these studios receive (at some benefit to the publisher of course), you see thinks like Ori and the Blind Forest, Resogun, Transistor, etc.

A lot of these games would launch solely on Steam, but Steam alone doesn't have the assistance available that you see on X1/PS4.
