Away Goals in Extra Time

I'm not a Chelsea fan by any means and feel like PSG deserved to win yesterday considering the circumstances of the game. I know the merits of using away goals as a tie breaker is an oft argued point and I'm not really interested in that discussion.
What I do want to discuss is using away goals in extra time to determine a winner. It seems quite unfair for the away team in the 2nd leg to get 30 more minutes to score an away goal that counts towards the tie breaker while the home team never had that chance in the away fixture.

It's definitely unfair. Completely agree.

It is an equalizer because the team that hosts the 2nd leg often has the advantage. Chelsea was sitting back because they had the away goal cover and paid the price for it. Fukk em.

dont care made for excititing soccer, and screw chelsea
I know this adds nothing to the topic, but I didn't get a chance to chime in yesterday with my excitement at the game's result

Cheslea had the advantage because they drew away and had an away goal. Again, I don't want to argue the merits of the away goal rule, but they earned the advantage through the result, not solely because they hosted the 2nd leg.

I personally like the away goals rule. If they don't want the opposing team to have 30 more minutes to grab another away goal then they should have taken care of business in the original 180.

But the only way it would have been more exciting would have been to go to penalties. That's what the result of equal score lines in the regulation in 2 matches, and ET in 1 deserves.

Penalties are the most bullshite way to decide a match.
They way it is now is perfect.

Then give them 30 more minutes in the first leg if it's tied. Then they at least have the same amount of time.. otherwise it's not equal. Not counting the ET away goal makes by far the most sense as they can just decide it in penalties.

I prefer this finish over pks. Pks can be fun but many times I'm disappointed by them, I prefer the back n forth chaos of the final couple minutes in a game

So deciding it on the field as opposed to through some obscure rule giving one side more time is "bullshite"... Not sure I see your logic on that one.

I wish we could just have a third game at a neutral site. That would be the most "fair" in my opinion.

Problem is team's sit on away goal ties thinking it's enough to get them thru, that additional 30 minutes in the first game is more likely to be boring soccer

How long have the rules been this way?
I know they've changed off a bit on the WC scene, but not sure about UCL.

I like away goals rule more than settling it with PKs. That way it's settled in actual soccer. Both teams knew the stakes, and it affected strategy. It adds a fascinating element to the match that no other sport has, IMO.

If anything, golden goal makes sense in ET if it is the 2nd leg the more I think about it.
That or take it to penalties.
But I also understand the point that Chelsea shouldn't have shite the bed.

Oh, I know the ET would be horrible in the 1st leg.. That's why I'm saying just using regulation away goals as the tie breaker makes the most sense to me.

It is slightly unfair but as stated it's necessary to encourage attacking football

Yeah both teams knew the stakes and Chelsea chose to play like a bunch of pussies. I am not arguing that fact. Just think it would be more equitable to put it to penalties. But it does add an element.. although PKs adds an element, too.

I just hate PKs. I think it's the worst way to decide a winner in any sport, and I have no viable alternative other than golden goal.
