It's a precisely and carefully composed statement purely for effect. It's totally artificial and everything to do with promotion of an image. I'm not saying it's even necessarily dishonest or anything. It's about what one would expect. It just doesn't mean much of anything except to make them look good and subtly suggest that Gayle is bad.
