It made puncture wounds and I got a tetnus shot but I still have to go back and find out if has rabies. I was running around a corner and it jumped up and bit me.

I'd first shoot the dog. Then I'd sue the owners.

So you didn't see it? Could it have perceived you as a threat since you came around the corner so fast and you scared it? I would talk with the owners before going all sue happy. It's the first thing your lawyer will suggest anyway. At least I would.

I walk my dog on a leash and he is never outside without me. He hates runners and is 12 lbs of terror and will go after arms and ankles but I do keep a short leash on him and I haven't had any accidents yet.
