And old fisherman i used to work for, in pamama city, used to catch them back in the 40's. He said there were tons of them. They would catch them and drag them to the beach to harvest their livers, which they would sell.

I've dived with them before, but not in the Gulf. Amazing creatures. I'm glad they are protected in most of the hotspots throughout the world.
