you needed regimental approval for even a 60mm mortar strike.

I worked for a joint task force in Afghanistan and that is the way shite should work, only one level (we had our on TOC)above your head and everything can happen quickly which is exactly what you need.

I don't think an attack by Iraqi forces on parts of Iraq occupied by a terrorist group strictly qualifies as an "invasion" - unless you're recognizing ISIS as a state now.

Ummm, they are a state...

Laws, currency, leader and land. What more do you need?

I can't tell if you're agreeing with me or not. I don't think you should need regt. Approval for a mortar strike. It may have happened quickly at your end but it also had to come up and then back down company and bn. levels.

Disclaimer: I didn't serve in Afghanistan. Just Iraq.

So I just printed off some reedus cash, I wrote down my own laws on toilet paper, declared myself leader of my kingdom and have claimed property as my own and have now declared myself an independent state. Are you saying that's all it takes?

I would agree with you that they are a state in their own mind but they are not a recognized or legitimate state.

Did both, and afghanistan's order of operations was a clusterfrick compared to Iraq, and we all know how shitty the ROE/ et al was in Iraq. ISAF could mess up a wet dream.

Word.

I was there 04-05. Things were still fairly unrestrictive then. But heard stories from buddies who served later. Seemed like a shite show.

I was there in 04 (Abu Ghraib), yeah, the ROE got A LOT more restrictive. 08 it was ridiculous.

I did Fallujah and Ramadi. Obviously Fallujah was no holds barred, Ramadi was a bit more restive but nothing crazy.

They seem to have a lot of it, irregardless if they're a UN member ...

I'm not going to respond to the layers of fallacies the other poster answered with.

How many americans are going to have to die in this country, how many times we will have to liberate these assholes before they get taken over by some new faction.

The Peshmerga are a legitimate fighting force. The Kurdish army is not the same thing. Ask your buddy about the Pesh.

I did actually, he said they will fight but there not on the level people portray.

A few months ago in a loss to ISIS there was talk about the Pesh running out of ammo. He told me Peshmerga did not run out of ammo, they quite simply got outmaneuvered and outfought. The Peshmerga were always overrated to begin with, consisting of PUK and KDP aligned groups that do not coordinate well.

This is one of my best friends. I believe his analysis over the boards. It's good to see a counter offensive by the government anyways.

Not saying don't believe him. When comparing any of these guys to our guys, it's not even close. The Pesh are a legit fighting force, better than any other local fighting force, but they are not elite. Very few countries enjoy the privilege of directing elite fighters like our special operations.
