Wine seems to have an air of sophistication that beer will never achieve, IMO. I
I think beer is already on par.

but mature markets such as mine I think are going to see a contraction due to pricing
Maybe......all mature markets have a retraction. Compare it to the mountain bike market of the 90s....if you are that old. My favorite bike shop....GT, has gone thru some serious gyrations....and the market as a whole has cooled.....but paying $2000 for a bike vs. $8 to even $12 for a beer is a bit different....so I'm just rambling.....but the brewers selling the $12 beers....or whatever price you are seeing....are also selling normal $5 to $6 dollar beers. I just go to my observation of the mainstreaming of craft beer. Its pretty amazing what average people want to drink these days. And those people are trend followers and not so price conscious.....but as I type I see your argument. Maybe the expensive stuff will drop in price after a few years.....but again, I think the business model of most is at a lower price point for more regualr IPAs, Stouts, etc.

what i am seeing here is that not only are the specialty beers becoming just stupid priced but the regular line up is inching up month after month. Take Sculpin for example, its a very good beer but it is priced at $14-16 a sixer here for a 7% beer. Dales, the colorado staple, is now normally priced at $10 a sixer and is hard to find fresh here( i think due to over saturation of the market). Ten Fidy is $15 a 4 pack at most places, I remember a few years ago it being $10.50, that was the schtick. And even at that price it was high dollar purchase in the market. At what price does Joe six pack(who we all agree is the life blood of breweries) say frick it, I am drinking high life because Dales isn't worth x amount of the price? I think we are approaching that price.
