Okay now your turn to list some negatives.

Most of your pros are based on money. Money makes the world go 'no doubt, so those are valid pros you listed. I concede that.

My biggest negative is the ratio of land that is available for multiple programs vs. a single program. A golf course is a golf course. It can't be anything else.

City Park is about 1300 acres. The current golf course takes up about 300 acres. The "new" course will take up an additional 300 acres. That's nearly half of the park dedicated to a single program. To me that goes against the philosophy of what a large urban park should be about. These types of parks should be for everyone and include a large variety of overlapping programs throughout.

Look at Central Park. Look at Golden Gate Park. Those are what City Park should be striving to be like. How many golf courses do you see in those parks? None. Why? because the land is too valuable to be dedicated to a single program. New Orleans only has so much land. Why dedicate the little bit of open space it has to a single use?

I'm not against golf. I used the crap out of the City Park driving range, and I agree that the north course is super meh. If golf is really needed, then redesign the north course. I'll even cede some land across Filmore for a couple more holes as the north section is pretty cramped.

The area between Filmore and 610 is an amazing piece of land. We used to go walk through there all the time. Scout Island is not full of Gutter Punks. Couturie Forest is not a hobo shanty town. It is land that has tons of potential and can serve multiple uses for all.

So a place where Golf has been played for almost a century now shouldn't have a golf course? I played the Wismer Course in the 90's. It was slammed on the reg.

Actually, Golden Gate park does have a golf course. So does Presidio, Lincoln Park, and Harding Park. San Francisco has several fairly successful golf courses. Harding Park will be hosting the PGA Championship and WGC Match Play.

ETA - it should be noted that Harding Park actually lost money until the PGA was brought in to manage it under the TPC umbrella. The biggest problem with city owned courses is that they're usually run like shite because of the local politics/beauracracy. Outsourcing the management to a private company usually makes them much more efficient and profitable. I think San Francisco has moved to this model or is moving to this model.
