Go ask pretty much everyone starting out in public accounting, especially the Big 4, what they're starting salaries are. You'll get a lot of answers around the 50k+ mark.

I would say 50k is pretty fair before meeting the work requirements.
ETA: Or maybe not. I'm making 50k now with no CPA but do plan on staying in my current position for my work requirement.
