No I think I was painting with too broad of a brush.
There are true mental illnesses and there are cop outs using mental illness for an excuse not to deal with issues that are in front of you. The latter is what I have a huge issue with.
ETA: just like saying calling someone ignorant isn't a personal attack instead of explaining your point of view

There may be people who do it because they don't want to face the consequences of their actions, but if you believe that, you have to believe they are rational in the moments before in that they realize what the consequences would be if they didn't kill themselves and then choose to end their life to dodge the consequences.
The next step in your logic is to believe a person in a rational state of mind puts a gun in their mouth and pulls the trigger, knowing they will die.
I just don't believe those two things are congruent.

Well just saying that suicide is selfish and weak is ignorant
Look at Boosie, a fab member, who just said he struggled in the past and thought about it but was too much of a pussy to do anything about it
Like I said, it takes a lot to overcome the survival instinct. And you might contemplate that your friend had an undiagnosed mental disorder, even if not bipolar. It's the depression that gets you to that point

I see where you're coming from about cop outs. But think about it. Ending your life is forever. It's not just trying to pass the buck, or garner attention. You are killing yourself. Don't you think there has to be something in the brain going on that has made darkness and hopelessness completely overwhelm you, to the point where your best option is death?
I could see thinking that about someone that constantly makes half assed attempts at suicide. But someone that does it has to have some type of mental issue, and that makes it such a sad ending.
