Get rid of the soffit/furrdown.
Ditch the stainless backsplash over stove. Use the same tile as the rest of the backsplash, and run it all the way up to the bottom of the upper cabinets.

I like white subway; it is classic (though currently popular). Look at matte rather than gloss for a more subtle sheen; or look at glass subway tiles for a slightly modernist appeal. Forget tumbled edge tiles, too hard to scrub kitchen crud out of the irregular dents in the tumbled tile.

already bought it. i went back & forth but everyone said the ss backsplash is far easier to keep clean than the tile.

i wont have cabinets..i'll have ss shelves installed after everything else is done.

pretty much sold on the white subway tile and possibly gray grout to make it stand out. not sure about matte vs glass or gloss.

i guess i should buy a few tiles & play with them
