I'm 26 and nowhere near 100k in my 401k but that is not my only savings vehicle...it is only 25% of my savings, actually.
I care more about net worth than a specific vehicle that got me there.

I've got a Roth IRA with about 7k in it. I really need to get into contributing to it, I have no excuse why I don't. Wife is tinkering with the idea of going back to work and it will put us over the income threshold to contribute.
I've also got a solid amount in savings and checking right now. I'm in the oilfield with a 5 month old, a stay at home wife, and a new house. I'm keeping that in a safe spot as a safety net right now. Just made it through a round of layoffs
