What kind of climate are you limited to?
You could live a pretty idealistic American life in Bloomongton, IL and many other cold places. Schools in Texas are better than Louisiana's but aren't up to par with many of the small and medium towns of the mid-west and Northeast.
Salt Lake City may also be an option.
