The Daynes reportedly carried Dawn for thousands of years. This is from the Wiki:
If it shares all the properties of a Valyrian blade with the addition aforementioned properties of being able to slay the Others then give me Dawn.

The blade is as pale as milkglass, looking like no Valyrian blade, yet sharing all of the properties, being incredibly strong and sharp.

My question is this though: How are they sure it's as strong as Valyrian Steel and that it shares all of it's properties. I don't think Valyrian Steel has been in Westeros for more than a thousand years, and the Sword of the Morning only rises once a century or longer. I know that Dawn faced off against Ice at one point, but I don't think Dawn has gone into battle all that often against Valyrian blades. I'm sure it stays sharp on it's own like Valyrian blades, but I'm not sure about much else.
