The Myth that LSU Cannot Develop QBs

Everyone pretty much agrees that Shea Patterson committed to Ole Miss today as part of a package deal to further his brother's coaching career. Apologists for the Pattersons have justified this saying that outside of 2013, LSU has not developed QBs. First of all, let me acknowledge that the QB spot was lousy this year. Anthony Jennings is overwhelmed at the spot and Brandon Harris did not get himself prepared to assume the position. Sure, Cam Cameron deserves some of the blame, particularly with Harris. But the idea that Cameron cannot develop QBs (Brees, Flacco, Mettenberger) is silly. But here's a list of the starting QBs of the Les Miles era and a comparison with Ole Miss. I think it's rather obvious that LSU has a far better track record than Ole Miss in the QB development department:
2014 - Anthony Jennings
2013 - Zach Mettenberger - Drafted by Tennesee; current NFL starter
2012 - Zach Mettenberger - Drafted by Tennesee; current NFL starter
2011 - Jordan Jefferson/Jarrett Lee - Lee signed as an undrafted free agent with the Chargers; released after training camp
2010 - Jordan Jefferson
2009 - Jordan Jefferson
2008 - Jarrett Lee/Andrew Hatch
2007 - Matt Flynn - Drafted by Green Bay; current backup to Aaron Rodgers
2006 - JaMarcus Russell - Drafted first overall by Oakland; NFL washout
2005 - JaMarcus Russell - Drafted first overall by Oakland; NFL washout
Of the 7 QBs to play for LSU over the past decade, three drafted and all were NFL starters
Ole Miss:
2014 - Bo Wallace
2013 - Bo Wallace
2012 - Bo Wallace
2011 - Randall Mackey/Zach Stoudt/Barry Brunetti
2010 - Jeremiah Masoli - signed as an undrafted free agent with the 49ers; released after training camp
2009 - Jevan Snead - signed as an undrafted free agent with the Bucs; released after training camp; resigned mid-season as backup; released after season
2008 - Jevan Snead - signed as an undrafted free agent with the Bucs; released after training camp; resigned mid-season as backup; released after season
2007 - Brent Schaeffer/Seth Adams
2006 - Brent Schaeffer
2005 - Michael Spurlock/Ethan Flatt
That's 10 QBs in 10 years. None drafted. Let's be charitable and say Wallace is drafted in the late rounds. He would be the first drafted Ole Miss QB in over a decade.
LSU may have had some duds over the past decade, but we've had some pretty good QBs too. I trust that 2014 was an aberration with Cameron and that we will see a much better product with Brandon Harris in 2015.
Anyway, there is no way anyone can credibly say that QB development led Patterson to Oxford.

no one is worried about the 3 or 4 coaches that Ole Miss has had in that span and how they developed QBs.
We know for sure that Les Miles cannot...period...save Mett who well, was developed as much as he was going to be when he got here.

You must have forgotten his first year, when he was the backup to Jefferson.
And his second year, when he was very mediocre.

except for the very obvious improvement we saw throughout his career..

Are you guys seriously trying to say that Les or CC are responsible for Mett's QB ability?
I mean really you are hanging your hat on Mett as far as the coaching staff ability to develope a QB?
Hell I guess we have no problem at QB and never have...what am I thinking?

I dont even like Cam and I cant deny the obvious progression that Mett made while he was here.
Honestly dont know what argument you think you have

no
but it is undeniable that he did indeed "develop" while at LSU
the only other QBs we have to go by are Lee and JJ
AJ's career is too young to judge right now

Jordan Jefferson made the 53-man roster for Tampa, FWIW.

Compare the stats of those QBs to ours...

Who were never coached by Cameron. Hell, they never even had a QB coach.

2008-2011 may be the worst timed QB drought in the history of cfb we may have won the tatty twice

its not about the numbers. Mett looked the exact same when he left as when he came in. The improvement in numbers could be attributed to many many many things.
Mett was an NFL bound QB when he got here period.
The one thing I will give Les/Cam credit for is going out and getting a Juco/NFL ready QB becasue they know they can't develop one.

no QB's were developed under Mile's eye. Russell and Flynn basically used their different talents to get by. And both had experience by the time Miles got there, but they both had flaws that should have been corrected as the NFL found out with JaMarcus' lazy arse.

Les is a head coach, not a position coach.

Mettenberger was at LSU in 2011... Cam's first year was in 2013..
