I agree that the side plots can be distracting and not very interesting but the therapy sessions give you perspective on Tony's life further down the road in the show. It's hard to compare Goodfella, Carlito and others to a show with 86 one or two hour episodes. If Henry Hill's life would have been shown as a 90 hour documentary, it would probably have gotten alittle slow too. Im biased I guess cause I watched it in real time on HBO and loved it.
