I thought no one could replace John Ferguson--and I still believe he was the best LSU has had, but--whether errant or not in some calls--Jim has been the "lighthouse" guiding a lot of us to LSU broadcasts over the years. Here in Central Florida, I can (faintly at times) pull in WWL and monitor what's going on. If I hear Hawthorne's voice, then I know it's LSU sports. The one problem here, though, is it seems like the radio reception dies just about the time Jim has something crucial to say or when he gives the score. It's easy to distinguish between Jim an the Hispanic station "sharing" 870 on the AM dial.
