re: Birdman: a good litmus test

My take:

IMO: You end this movie with him on stage giving the final monologue with the gun in his hand. Done.

I would have cut the scene of him putting bullets into the gun and the drowning dream discussion. It was already building up to a does he kill himself opening night scenario.

Being a character driven story, it should have just faded to black. Shooting nose off, disappearing through hospital window, daughter looking into sky with surprise - all unnecessary.

That's my only issue with the movie. Otherwise, I thought it was a very good story with well developed characters. Not every movie needs some twist ending, just let it be. IMO.
