The ending was purely figurative and made perfect sense.

Are you serious, Clark?

I'm willing to listen to any theory you have that would sell me on the ending.

It's funny how some people are 100% certain of the ending.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

1. He dies on the stage. This makes no sense but some people are positive this is what happens and the hospital scene is the final pistons firing in his brain.

2. He survives but dies after jumping out the window. I don't buy this at all. Why would his daughter not freak out if he is dead on the street? The people who believe this theory claim she snapped upon seeing him dead and entered the same style of fantasy life that he was living. Her brain tried to protect her by making her think he was flying.

3. Same as he did the whole movie, he thinks he is using his birdman powers but in real life he is climbing up a fire escape. This is the most plausible explanation. We already saw him jump once before and he didn't die.

4. The Being There Theory. No longer tethered by the weight of his doubts, he actually flies away similar to Chauncey walking on water.

What I love is how CERTAIN people are about the ending. Sure.
