So I've got Kodi running on my Fire TV and its fantastic. Genesis is great, but occasionally the HD sources, which are limited in number, will cache very slowly. It won't keep up with playback. Is there anything to do to improve this, even if that meant pausing show at beginning for a while and waiting? If I try to do that now it eventually starts automatically and then buffers down the line. Perhaps there are other plugins for TV shows with more reliable sources?

ETA: Don't run the Eminence Skin on Fire TV. Even after using suggestions in this thread I still had issues. I went back to stock theme because the skin was chewing through memory without me knowing it. The more you kno .

There is an XML file you can edit to increase the amount of cache available to Kodi, which might help. But, you need to be able to confirm that the Fire TV actually deletes the cache when it's done or allows you to delete it manually.

How can I confirm if the Fire TV is or isn't deleting the cache? Is it genesis or kodi specific?

You can change the settings individually in the network settings part of the advanced settings program. I set mine to use up to a gig of ram for cache, some people say this can overwork the ram. I also set the buffer factor to 20. It cleared up all of my buffer issues on hd. The benefits will vary with your internet speed, so you may want to play with it.
Some people prefer to use the hard drive for the cache, but issues can arise when you do not have enough space.

I installed the xbmchub add-on then under programs it is >program add-ons>easy advanced settings>edit settings>network settings>network> from there I set cachemembuffersize to 104857600, buffermode to 0, and readbufferfactor to 20

Let me know if You have any questions.

I currently use plex...Is this a solution I should look into as an better alternative than plex?

I used plex to stream local content I had downloaded prior to using kodi. Kodi removes the step of having to download the content to begin with if you setup the add-ons. Now I just search for the show I want to watch and stream it directly.
Although I still have a server I rarely have a reason to download content I will only view once, which is pretty much everything.

Thanks for the tip, tech bro. Took me awhile to realize "easy advanced settings" was the actual plugin name. Also turns out that the Conq skin doesn't display anything at all with some of those configure plugins... had to switch back to the default skin to see it. That skin may not be set up for the TVMC build on the fire tv. Anyhow, set the cache to 1 gig like you, and the buffer factor to 10, and a particular movie that always stuttered is streaming smoothly now.

Oh and the wiki page explaining the meaning of those commands was very helpful too. Everyone running a fire tv with substantial bandwidth should do this IMO

i should clarify that last post. i messed up the byte/MB/gig unit conversion. the cache is not set to 1 gigabyte, it is set to 100mb, which is 1/10 of a gig. did some research and some nerdy folks have had much success with a buffermode set to 1, readbufferfactor to 4 or 5, and a cachemembuffer size at 100,000,000 (or 104,857,600 if ya nasty)

I've found that if you go way down on the list of streams and use one of the less popular sites the streams are better because there are less people trying to use it. By doing this you'll use a SD stream but the quality is still very good and not at all what you would think about SD quality.

i found that too, but sometimes there aren't many HD streams to pick from. i changed those 3 settings and it streams HD flawlessly.

Yeah I edited my post to mention that you would be using SD streams. I have the fire stick so with half the ram I just look for less used good quality SD streams.
