No, it has to do with having better depth last year. We could bring Jarell/Shavon, Stringer, Morgan, Tim, and Hammink off the bench. That isn't exactly Kentucky's bench, but it's 10x better then what we have now.
Three players who could provide depth this year, Hammink, Hickey, and another forward, were run off by Jones.

Bridge got abused on the glass, had a bad rotation, and took a bad under the basket shot in about a minute of play. He did not play well. I will say this, Bridge, Epps, and Elbert all know how to box out. Malone does to. Not sure why Martin and Mickey don't do it.
If you are going to criticize the bench for bad play, then they have to play first. The alternative isn't playing your best 5 the whole game. That won't win many games and isn't doing the team any good.

Last year at least Jones started the year subbing more players, but quickly went to a 7 man rotation. Hammink only played late in the year when someone got hurt. Even then his playing time was sporadic.

Wasn't Coleman so tired towards the end of one overtime game that he was lying down on the ground by the bench? Dude looked dead.

You keep banging on the depth issue. While it certainly would be nice for LSU 8-9-10 deep, it's not like teams are pulling away from a tired LSU team late in games. LSU has been in every game this season despite really only playing 7 guys.

The MUCH larger problem is that they don't do the little things or make the smart plays that help you win tough games. FT have been glaring in SEC play but that's not the whole story. Look at the A&M game. 11 point lead with 9:00 to play and LSU starts jacking up 3's early in the shot clock. Attacking the basket late in games with the lead early in the shot clock instead of running clock (see Ole Miss). Hell, last night down two late (I think) they make a nice defensive play and TQ comes flying down the court out of control and nearly loses the ball twice. The refs had to bail him out with a horrible foul call on AU. Even in their best game (UF) there were moments of just dumb play. UF was willing to let LSU run clock even though the gators were down 10 with about 2:00 to play . Instead of doing so, Quaterman is trying to make a rushed cross-court pass on a runout that lead to a quick turnover. These aren't anomalies. Yet Jones will just stand there and stare blankly while it all unfolds.

No idea why Hammink left. Hickey wouldn't go to class. Do you not remember that he was suspended for multiple games last season? Malik wanted to start, but he wasn't better then Keith before the ACL injury and he definitely isn't better now. Other then Hickey, none of them were run off by Jones.

We're stuck between a rock and a hard place. You either have to play your best players more minutes then they should be playing or play players who aren't ready and risk letting the game get out of hand.

We had a 10 man rotation before Malik got hurt. Odo played in almost every game last year. Hammink too. We never went with 7 players. The minutes reflect that.

Ole Miss game. He was sick. I remember the announcers talking about how he was throwing up the day before.
