How do you think you can work with the ppl on the line? This will be more than a week but forever, crazy to screw over your coworkers. Turn that pump over, your fired.LOTO was not done correct, they can help operations or kill you.

Sounds like another indirect threat from the union. Instead of making an argument to support your claims you result to bullying your coworkers. I don't think you can defend usw's actions. Usw has sold out its members we are not selling out our coworkers. Most I've talked to don't agree with usw and are just tring to hold out to avoid the harassment of the usw stronghold. Usw is crawfishing and resorting to scare tactics and bad politics. How typical. If usw is serious about safety concerns they will take routine jobs of the table. They very well may seeing the resistance they are currently getting. If usw did that and happened to have valid safety concerns companies weren't willing to resolve why hasen't the union already intervened. Take routine jobs of the table we will have fair contract. Let local decide on there nonessential staffing.

That's me and everyone else I know.
The union meeting last week at sooner point when talking about workers crossing, one of the people from Pittsburgh (whose still getting paid mind you) said "once a scab, always a scab! "
That mindset from 30 years ago is still there with some people. I think a lot of us younger folk couldn't give a frick.

I agree Brass. A lot of us are starting to see the light. USW doesn't pay me, Shell/Motiva does and right now I'm not getting paid or benefits(medical) in which I honestly really need at the time. The USW's "emergency" insurance covers nothing that my SO is currently going through and no one in the right mind can afford medical insurance 100%.
So that being said, I have a tough decision ahead of me.

Some of the super Union asskissers can be extremely annoying.
Posted on 3/1/15 at 7:52 am to RealityTiger
Very annoying. I don't want to cross but if push comes to shove I will skip across that line with a smile.
They are supposedly meeting again Wednesday. Hopefully they can have this resolved by Wednesday.

Yeah I hope for your sake and my friend's sake. He is in a funk right now big time.

Why don't the Union workers rise up and strike against the USW?? USW is the problem, not the clients paying your mortgage.
Find one person to represent each site and approach that client with a proposal to come back on as a contract worker. They put you in touch with their nested contractor, everyone goes back to work. Happy workers, happy families, happy client/employer, frick USW.....

Have you gone back to work?
Posted on 3/1/15 at 10:54 am to MeatHammer09
Two things I'm looking forward to seeing:
1. What the contract will look like
2. How many people will stop paying union dues
Granted, #2 will be driven by what #1 looks like. I have yet to speak with a person that is for the strike.

Non-Union, never left work.
I do/have however negotiated with many of the clients involved. They're not very fond of being involved in stick measuring contests like USW is pushing....

Do you and brass work in convent or norco?
Posted on 3/1/15 at 11:18 am to TexasTiger01
Sorry unthought you were another poster from Deer Park.
My apologies.
I also believe like someone else said that their will be a substantial amount of people withdrawing from the union once this is all said and done. My self included. Maybe before.

No prob
My office is about a mile from Shell DP. I hope this all works out so you guys can get back to work. Pisses me off that the union management is being greedy at their members expense. My advise is to not let this thing get you and your family in a position that may takes years to recover from. Take a stand. The clients will treat all workers fair, it's 2015. Safety and ethics overpower productivity these days... It's the world we live in now. Best of luck

Not specific number refinery wide but I know of about 5 people personally who have crossed already. Yea I am thinking like you. They are going back to the table Wednesday so I'll make my decision based off of the outcome of that. I'll mostly likely be back next week if the union keeps playing stupid games. My livelihood is something I don't take lightly and for the union to no give a frick and keep saying "stay strong brothers and sisters" is pretty much a slap in the face to me.

LOL - yal bitch about the union cause your on strike without pay and benefits and from reading most of the threads yal thought it would last a week or so, but if the union succeeds you will be back working and paying dues and praising USW for what they have got you - than in 3yrs when the contract runs out you will be on here bitching about USW again. #2 should depend on you and your family not what the USW gets you.

Thanks. We will overcome this but like you said, I will not let them dictate my financial stability. If nothing is done by Wednesday, I will be back at work with a smile and hold my own. I'm an adult, I'll manage my work status.
