Why not? If he did desert he is a traitor and probably caused Americans to die directly by his action. The day we don't execute traitors is the day our republic ceases to exist.

Would you care to explain your reasoning?
I don't think he will get the death penalty, hell I'm not sure he'll be Court Martialed. If the facts show he deserted his post and collaborated with the enemy, then hang his arse. Some of his own died looking for him.
