As a teacher, I would have never let myself get into that situation. If he wanted to take the phone back he should have just let him and then written him up. The kid would have gotten several days of OSS. It's not worth getting into those kinds of confrontations.

Hey may not have expected it to get that violent that quickly.
It may have been as fast -
"I'm taking your phone for use in class."
"Naw, that's bullshite give it back."
"You know the rules. Take it up with the assistant principal."
::Kid gets up out of seat and starts trying to wrestle him to the ground::
