They aint goin to be elite anything, until they learn how to shoot freethrows. Just sayin

We beat a 1-5 Vandy and now we're talking elite 8. Jesus

don't try to explain it to people that don't understand basketball. you don't always beat a bad team by 20 points like in football, especially on the road.
they always expect LSU to win by 30 points or the teams sucks.

Don't need to have Kentucky type talent, Michigan State is a consistent Tourney team, Sweet 16 type team year in and year out. They never have near the talent Kentucky has.
If the Tigers cut down on turnovers, defend harder, and make free throws they will challenge anyone on any given day.

All real Tiger fans are happy for Coach Jones and the team...but the tournament weeds out sloppy and totally undisciplined teams in due time...it takes time to build a championship program...but it's getting somewhat better as we continue on that road....

you do realize LSU made a final four with john brady, right?
Well yeah. If you have a talented player that can dunk over 2 guys, the other coaches arent thinking," why didnt i think of that play". Talent can make up for coaching.

That 2006 team was far more talented than this year's team.
Tyrus Thomas(NBA), Big Baby(NBA),Garrett Temple(NBA), Darnell Lazare ( NBA DL allstar), and Darrel Mitchell( productive college player).

we would've lost this game last year, as well as a bunch of other ones we pulled out.
you can tell they are playing better as a team.

don't try to come at me with that. i know everything about that team.
you listed a main reason for them not to make it was coaching needs to be good. i told you john brady sucked and we made a final four.
that's a fact.

Don't need to have Kentucky type talent,
I never said we did. My post was a reply to a poster saying

If m and m come back we will have kentucky type talent next year in my opinion
Even if both Mickey and Martin come back, we still womt jave Kentucky talent.

LSU turns the ball over more than any team I've ever seen. No way they make the elite 8 playing like that. Great college basketball teams would make LSU pay for 15+ turnovers
Posted on 1/24/15 at 8:23 pm to thibodauxtigah
Possible but not likely with the turnovers and lack of discipline at times.
Posted on 1/24/15 at 8:27 pm to thibodauxtigah
No true Center, inconsistent back court play and on top of that soft in the paint.

No one thought the 2006 team was going to the final four.
This team isn't close to that team, at least yet. I wasn't shocked at all they made it that far that year......I was actually shocked they lost in the semis.
That said, if we can make the tourney, and win a game in it, it will go a long way in setting us up for next year. We do need one of M&M to come back though, and not sure that is happening.

Then you should know that great talent ( which is what 2006 lsu had) can overcome an average coach.

I listed it as ONE OF MANY needs to make an elite 8. I never once said you HAVE TO HAVE elite coaching. BUT the programs that routinely make the elite 8 or final four, has good coaching. A coach like Brady making the final 4 is the outlier, not the norm.

plus they struggle with free throws. That's a killer...especially when you turn the ball over so much. A solid fundamental team that is disciplined, will give LSU fits. It's all about matchups, but typically after the first round, you don't find many teams that aren't fundamentally sound.
