Perhaps. But them having the atomic bomb first and using it on D.C. went a long way towards our surrender.
The book is really interesting so far but significantly different. In it there is an equivalent fictional book about what if the allies had won the war. To the characters in the story this hypothetical seems far fetched.

One atomic bomb ain't doing the US in. 10 atomic bombs ain't doing the US in. Not in world war 2. Germany surrendered after nearly 20% of it's population was killed. Russia kept fighting when 14% of it's population died. Japan lost 5%.
The US lost .32%. Neither the Germans nor the Japanese had realistic options of bombing the US. They tried and failed miserably. The Enola Gay couldn't launch from an aircraft carrier.
It's just silly.
