The Cubs in their 73 wins last year, actually got some career years from players, such as Valbuena and especially Coghlan. Valbuena has had 2 improved years in a row, so he may just be one of those late bloomers.
Fowler walks a lot, but that's about it. He's not a particularly good defender either.
Where the Astros screwed up was Gattis. I think it was fine to package some prospects to get an outfielder in. But get a young one and a complete outfielder - they certainly could have for that package. Gattis is a Trumbo type.
