I understand that this movie was panned, gutted then eviscerated. However, I watched it with my 10 yo son and tried to see what he was seeing as well.
For him it wasn't about character development or contrived story telling....he was watching a movie for fun.
I started watching it the same way. In that way, the movie worked just as the TV show worked when I watched it when I was little. It was fun. This was a movie that wanted to connect with the joy of those old shows and I think it did. When the overture started, it was a total kick in the pants.
It was good guys and bad guys. No elaborate back stories to mesh out the big bad and make us empathetic to his motives. He was just a greedy man with low morals. The heroes had values. Simple.

Agreed. This and john carter. Two really fun movies. A crying shame that we keep getting transformers, when these two have more potential and are much better popcorn flicks

Don't get me started on this again.
Would have been a great trilogy.

It wasn't as bad as the reviews made it out to be, still not great but for a buck a Redbox, I did not complain.

As far as Lone Ranger, I think people were disappointed with it for not being as good as it could have been. It could have been a lot better for sure. That said it was at least entertaining, esp for a 10 yo.
