Lee only got better on his own

Always the fall back position for the negative guys. If there was improvement, it wasn't cause of the LSU staff. If there was no improvement, it was cause of the LSU staff. Nonsense, but typical.

Russell got better between 05 and 06. RP got better between 06 and 07. JL got better between 08 and 2011. JJ got better between 2010 and 2011. Mett got better between 2012 and 2013. Cherry picking a couple games of JJ's to make some failed point is nonsense as well, but typical of the "I love to be miserable in all things LSU football" gang.

Unfortunately, we've seen his best. Doesn't read defenses fast enough and not accurate with poor arm strength. Harris has to be the guy.

Harris can be our Davey, Russell, and Mettenberger.

If Steele brings back some intensity on D, we can ride Fournette to the playoff with slightly better QB play. I, like everyone, want that to be Harris, but I get fed up with the "worst QB in 30 years... Hit his ceiling" narrative that gets tossed around so I come off as supportive of Jennings to the exclusion of Harris.

It just kills me that a guy who gives every bit of himself to the team is rewarded so.

I agree with most of this. Mauck's stats from 2002-2003 should be everyone's shot in the dark hope for Jennings should Harris not earn the spot. I don't think he can improve to that level, but I'm not a professional talent evaluator. I think Jefferson's So season would be his absolute ceiling and the best we could hope for based on what we have seen from him so far.

We need to find the guy that can win a championship for LSU. Finding a guy that can do just enough not to cost us one should only be the goal if the first guy isn't on the team.

If Jennings hits 61% of his throws for 2000 yards and 17:7, we will win the SEC and CFB playoff next year, bar none.

I've said my peace and glad I've found some common ground with someone with a respectable opinion, so I'm checking out for the time being.

Cue the "professional talent evaluators"....

Can see this

Can't see this. But if we knew what was going to happen, it wouldn't be as much fun.

Jennings had a completion percentage under 50% in 227 pass attempts. That's awful. Let's look at SEC QB's who qualified for the passing title and a completion percentage under 50% for a season in the last 5 years:

2013 Brandon Allen, Arkansas
2011 Randall Mackey, Ole Miss
2011 Morgan Newton, Kentucky
2010 Larry Smith, Vanderbilt
2009 Larry Smith, Vanderbilt

Yeah, that's not an encouraging list. Allen was okay this season, and I think that's the peak of what we could reasonably expect from Jennings. Allen was 190/339 for 2285 yards and 56.0%. Most encouragingly, he had a TD/INT ratio of 20/5. That's your best case scenario.

LSU C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT
Anthony Jennings 12/22 87 4.0 0 0

LSU C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT
Anthony Jennings 12/21 107 5.1 1 1

LSU Passing
C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT QBR
Anthony Jennings 7/14 151 10.8 1 0 17.1

These 3 last games were improvement?

I didn't see enough of this to suggest 2015 will be any better than 2014...

Jennings looks like a servicable backup QB to me. That is not a knock on him, he just is not accurate throwing, has limited pocket awareness, can run pretty well, and does not know how to check down.

Jefferson was really, really bad. All of this points to Miles's inability to get/develop QBs. In 10 years he has yet to do it. It will not change until Miles himself changes.

I love LSU football as much as any other fan, and I will root for any player on the team because they are a Tiger

BUT

Anthony Jennings is just not a starting caliber QB in the SEC. He is a guy who is a decent back up who can come in and run your offense because he knows the plays, but he will never be the one to make the big play.

As bad as this past season went with 5 losses, I don't see why Harris was not the starter and learned while on the job. I don't see how it could have gone any worse.

I don't care who starts, I just want to be average or better in the passing game
