Don't be passive about this. If you think the VP will cover for you because he knows you didn't do it, you're leaving yourself vulnerable. People cover their own arse at work, not the asses of other people. Tell the president how it happened and tell the VP you want to handle the report alone from now on.

Never trust other motherfrickers at work. They couldn't care less if your family starves as long as it will get them one more pat on the back.
