re: If you gave me a choice between Chavis/Haley or Steele/Orgeron

You lost a lot of guys to the draft. Leaders that play a big role in the locker room and on the field. Coaches can do a lot but without the senior leadership from top players that is big.
True but part of that motivation is on the coaches. Chavis had the whole "tradition doesn't graduate" thing yet after 2011 they just didn't play with fire.

Just think of the amount of talent that has come and gone playing in the NFL during. Chavis time there and I get he may not have been big on recruiting but Chavis had credibility. Just my two cents.
He was a good coach but sometimes you need to mix shite up. Look at soccer overseas. They'll fire a guy for just because he's been there too long, results be damned.
I hate to use the cliche BUT Miles has been here 10 years. He's comfortable. The fire hasn't been there. Cam is his buddy and Chavis was here a while as well. After a while things just get stagnant. You can't be complacent.

Steele/Orgeron is not going to produce on the field the way Chavis/Haley would have. Probably not even close. They WILL perform as well on the recruiting trail, and possibly significantly better. I'd wager the LSU decision-makers are satisfied with BOTH of those results.
Why? Because they're ready to get rid of Miles. No other way to read it. Steele's defenses are not going to bail out Miles's offense nearly as much as has been the case in the past. And it's going to be reflected in the record, making it easier to justify canning him in two years.
But Orgeron will be stocking the cupboard with talent during those two years, so Miles's successor will have the raw materials to win.
