Is not hard to understand. Negativity is what allows them to divorce themselves from any sort of failure, but reap the feelings that come with success. Being pessimistic gives them a pass. Instead of saying "well this sucks," they get to act superior and say I told you so. When things work out though, they don't have to do a fricking thing but enjoy it.
