Agree with most of your thoughts. But OSU didn't really play "wide open". They ran the ball a ton and right between the tackles.
LSU doesn't need to open it up as much as they need to use less tight ends in the box (who don't get targets anyway) and put a few more WRs outside to take a few men out of the box.
That said, LSUs system should in theory mask the inexperienced QB--i.e. Run the ball, give the QB a big deep first look and an option running short underneath as a safety valve, but Jennings just couldn't make those short throws.
